Pregnancy

The person at your first scan is the person in the delivery room. That shouldn't be rare. It is. And nobody is counting your appointments in between. If something worries you at eleven at night, you have a number that reaches a person.

Arkansas has the highest maternal mortality rate in the country. The state's own review committee looked at pregnancy-related deaths from 2018 to 2020 and found 92% of them were preventable — and 42% of those women had private insurance. Coverage and a good job are not the protection people assume they are.

We can't promise you an outcome, and anyone who does is selling something. What we can promise is that you will never be explaining your own history to someone who is meeting you for the first time.

Dr. Lloyd delivers at Mercy. Whoever you saw for every prenatal visit is the person who meets you at the hospital — not whoever happens to be on the floor that night.

  • Prenatal care, on a schedule set by you and your pregnancy
  • Delivery at Mercy, with Dr. Lloyd attending
  • Postpartum care, including the parts usually rushed
  • Coordination with maternal-fetal medicine when it's needed
  • Lactation and recovery support
Cost
$7,500 all in, for the pregnancy year

Every prenatal visit, the delivery, and postpartum. Membership isn't charged on top during those months — if you were already a member that's $4,800 you stop paying, so the pregnancy year adds around $2,700 rather than the whole $7,500.

Worth knowing before you react to that number: a pregnancy is two bills, not one. The hospital's — the room, the nursing, the anesthesia, the newborn — is the fifteen or twenty thousand people talk about, it goes through your insurance, and it is the same whether you come here or go anywhere else. The physician's fee is the separate one, and for a normal pregnancy it runs about four to five thousand dollars whoever you see. So the number you're weighing isn't eight against nothing. Work out what yours would come to.

From January 2027, maternity care is coded per encounter nationwide rather than as one bundled code — which means your superbill itemizes every visit instead of summarizing nine months in a single line.
