Good Doctors, Bad System: Why Most OBs Are Doing Their Damned Best

A love letter (and a reality check) for the OBs doing heroic work inside a system that’s stacked against them.

It’s not them. It’s the machine they’re trapped inside.

Here’s the truth nobody’s telling you:

👉 Most OBs are good. Really good.

👉 They care. They lose sleep. They stay late. They carry the weight of hundreds of patients on their backs.

But here’s the other truth:

👉 They’re working in a system that was never built to let them win.

You see the 7-minute prenatal visits?

Not their choice.

You see the 4 patients booked in the same time slot?

Not their choice.

You see them charting while you’re talking?

Not because they don’t care- because if they don’t, they’ll be docked, flagged, or sued.

🩺 Your OB is probably juggling:

  • 30+ patients a day in clinic

  • Two inductions, one emergency C-section, and a triage full of “can I be seen?”

  • Hospital admin breathing down their neck about RVUs

  • Their kid’s daycare closing at 5 p.m.

And they’re still showing up.

They’re still catching your baby.

They’re still making judgment calls that cannot be taught in a textbook.

But here’s where it gets complicated:

A “good OB” inside a broken system can’t always be the doctor they want to be.

They’re hustling for your safety inside a model designed for volume, not value.

And you know what?

👉 Most OBs hate it, too.

👉 Most OBs didn’t go into medicine to be glorified box-checkers.

👉 Most OBs want to slow down, listen longer, and do better.

But the system pushes “more.”

More patients. More charts. More liability. More hoops.

And your good OB is trying to keep you safe while not losing themselves.

Here’s what you should know:

👏 It’s not because they don’t care.

👏 It’s not because they’re lazy.

👏 It’s because they’re practicing inside a system designed to burn them out before they burn out the malpractice premiums.

So give grace to the good ones.

Love on the ones still trying.

And know that behind every rushed visit is probably a doctor wondering:

“How long can I keep doing this?”

👉 At THRĒ, we don’t take for granted the OBs out there giving 110% inside 110% broken systems. We’re building a different model- not because they failed, but because they deserve better, too.
